  • Crochet Update

    Finished the hat!!!  Hooray!
Wore it on Saturday Sunday and it was soooo itchy.  Booo!

I also completed the edging on the afghan.  Once I get some decent light, I will take photos of each block again and of the whole thing.

Started on a scarf using the same color yarn as the hat.  I am using one of the patterns I did for the charity blocks.

I sent those off last Saturday, but I am told there is a box of crochet squares my grandmother made waiting for me at home which I can go through and donate worthy pieces to charity.... Difficult to part with stuff like that but I think it will serve the most good if I do so.

  • Menu Update

Yesterday for dinner we had leftovers
Thai-style pumpkin chicken soup over rice
    Ginger brocolli
Green salad with mushrooms, celery & radish

Tonight, I am planning to make "Penne & Potato" which appears to be a top of the stove version of a baked dish I have made in the past.  Basically, it's potatoes, pasta and tomatoes cooked together with chicken stock & cheese.

Tomorrow is Friday, so I think we might have pizza.

    Waiting in the wings:
Butternut squash which is probably going to end up as soup.
A friend's chocolate cupcake recipe, but need to get all the ingredients

  • Exercise Update

    Focus: Upper Body
    Length: 15 min.
    Heart rate max bpm: 153
    Heart rate avg bpm: 127
Exercise of the day:  Lat Ball Pullover
Requires bouncy ball and hand weights.
With feet on floor, knees bent and head & shoulders on the ball, lift the weights above you.  Keeping your arms extended, lower your arms behind your head (remember you are virtually horizontal).  To keep the ball from rolling steady your glutes and abdomen.  Bring weights to starting position and repeat 11 more times.  Rest 30 seconds then repeat once more.

Yesterday, we had pizza and salad for dinner.  I also heated up some chicken stock, cooked some frozen vegetables in it and called it soup.  I don't think we had dessert.

I worked on my crochet squares as we watched television.

Today, I plan to finish my crochet squares as I watch more episodes of Duchess of Duke Stret.  I am on call so I am sticking close to home, but I might go to the grocery store or the drug store.

    Eight Random Facts

    The rules:

    • Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
    • People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules.
    • At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
    • Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
    1. I was in an after school program during grade school so some one took care of me while my parents worked.  One time, I walked all the way from the after school program to my mother's office.  I did something similar after church while visiting my grandparents, and walked from the churh to my grandparent's house.
    2. I attended a catholic school for grades 1 through 3.  I attended a private school for graded 4 through 8.  I attended a public high school.
    3. My first part-time job was working as a server for the catering department of a university.  It was about 4 or 5 hours a week and we got a meal included.
    4. I have been with my current partner for over ten years.  I think he might be the one.
    5. When I was younger I was told how lucky I was to have both sets of my grandparents still living.  Now, with only my paternal grandfather alive, I think I understand what they meant.
    6. I like my neigbhorhood, but I can't say I know my neighbors very well.
    7. Since moving to San Francisco, I have voted in almost every election.
    8. When I make crochet pieces, I usually give them as gifts, but when I do needlepoint, I usually keep them for myself.

    • Drop off old clothes, book & toy at charity

    • Get Xmas stamps from post office

    • Get free newspapers

    • Stop by produce store

    • Stop by comic book store

    • Stop by game store

    • Stop by cheese store

    • Stop by grocery store

    • We got home about 2:30pm.

Oh, we also had lunch at southern Indian restaurant in the Mission called Dosa.  It is a little north of the corner of 21st and Valencia.  I quite enjoyed it.

I had a fruit salad that was very spicy and a dosa that had masala (potato, onion & stuff) and eggplant.  A dosa is like a crepe, but thinner and crispier.  It was server with sambar and two dips. One was coconut and the other was not.

Chuk had what looked to be a vegetable soup with two types of dumplings.  One type was idly and the other was not.  For his main course, he had the paneer dosa, which looked more like a flauta or an egg roll.  It's filling was cheese and some other stuff.  It was all very tasty.

  • Wednesday Update

Yesterday, I worked the early shift so I got to go home early.  Talked to my granddad to help bolster his spirits.  Then called my mother to help bolster mine.  It's only been 2 weeks since grandma passed away but it feels like 2 months because of everything that has been going on.  Mom's on her way down there today.

I took a nap in the late afternoon, then woke up in time for dinner: BLT sandwiches.  mmmm bacon.

Knit and crocheted while watching Heroes, Queer Eye & 3 Minute Cooking (really a 15 min program). I am making dishcloths since they are small.

Today, working the early shift again.  I plan to cook something in the slow cooker so we don't have to turn the oven on while it is hot.  And hopefully, there were be guacamole.

Tomorrow, early shift again.  Not sure if the heat wave will continue.

  • Back to Alpine

As you may or may not know, my grandmother passed away on Oct. 10, 2007 due to a blood clot in her lung.  This came as quite a shock to everyone.

There is a memorial service for her this Tuesday, so I am going back this Sunday and returning on Thursday.  My dad has been down there since Friday and some other relatives have come to visit and see my grandfather.
